How to Find and Keep Your Passion for Work

passion for work

It’s always a good idea to think about your career goals whatever time of the year. But more important than this should be taking time to assess your passion for work.

It should come as no surprise that when it comes to having passion for work, most people don’t have this. That’s just how it is. In the United States, the number is 70 % while in Japan, it’s about 60 %.

Of course, many people are not even aware about their lack of passion for work. But there is no doubt that being passionate about your career can add a lot of value to it. But it goes without saying that without passion, you will not be able to reach your fullest potential.

One of the main reasons why people are no longer passionate about their work is because of the many negative things that they experienced. If that’s you, you’re probably asking this question: how do you bring back that passion for work and life in general?

What does having passion for work mean?

By definition, being passionate about your work involves a level of enthusiasm or affinity towards someone or something.

Of course, your passion for work, or lack thereof, can evolve over time and one can have a number of passions.

Even if you think it isn’t possible, it is very possible to be passionate about your work. But before you chase your passions, make sure that it is something that you truly want or aspire to.

For this, you need to check as to whether you feel fulfilled by what you do everyday. Or even having your friends and family helping you with this too.

No matter what, make sure you move in the right direction once you are sure of what you really want to do.

In order to find and sustain your passion for work, it’s important to know what your career passion is while working towards it, for as long as it takes. Here are 4 steps to finding and sustaining your passion for work:

Step 1: Find a career coach

It’s not easy to do everything on your own. You must find a career coach in order to ensure that they don’t make the same mistakes. Having a coach will help you not only find your passion for work, but also which of these passions is best for your career to achieve success. Apart from this, you can better identify what you are passionate about with the help and advice of a career coach. This teamwork-based approach is much better than the trial-and-error method that you might carry out on your own.

Step 2: Identify your passion accurately

One question that career coaches ask is what their coaches love to do. That’s because once they know what they love doing, then they can feed it with passion. When you truly understand this, you will begin to move away from jobs that you dislike.

Step 3: Track and measure passion levels

Another way to ensure that you are passionate at work is to measure your passion levels. For this, you need to have a system in place to both measure passion levels as well as measures to sustain them. This should be for you and for your staff. Companies should do this not only for quality and profits but also when it comes to passion levels, too. Also, the role of the coach in measuring your passion levels is most important.

Step 4: Use your coach as an accountability partner

Your coach will not only hold you responsible to keep your passion for work. He or she will also help you prevent from drifting away too. Most important, your coach will ensure that you deliver on your promises as you discover your passion as well as how you wish to improve it too. Of course, they are expensive but not hiring a coach will ensure you make far more mistakes and lose out on a lot of money as a result.

In closing…

These are just the first few steps to realising your passion for work and sustaining it.

Are there any other ways by which you can find and sustain your passion for work? If so, feel free to share them in the comments below.
