How Participating in TEDx Could Help Your Career

attending-tedx-talk

While most people believe that money makes the world go around, nothing could be further from the truth. That’s if you’ve watched any TEDx talk. For those who make it a habit to watch these TEDx Talks on YouTube, great ideas make a difference.

Almost every leader who has given a TEDx talk knows how powerful words can be. That goes for the audience too. Who are present to feel motivated and inspired by those who have been there and done that.

Having said that, if you’ve never attended a TEDx Talk or even watched one, it’s imperative that you do. Better still, if you ever get the opportunity to speak, it would be advisable to do that as well.

Ideas, as some of us believe, do make the world go around. Not forgetting what just attending one can do for your career as part of any organisation’s leadership.

A Note on TEDx Events

For those who have no clue as to what these Tedx events offer, it’s wise to take a step back and look at the purpose of these so-called seminars. Seminars where people think out of the box, sometimes.

However, there’s a difference. These events are community-based and generally cover a wide range of subjects. Still, the objective, no matter where you attend these talks, is to encourage people to learn, feel inspired, and participate in thought-provoking conversations.

The key focus of these events is to foster a sense of community where these talks happen. Better still, you get to discuss several issues with professionals from diverse backgrounds and professions. You sell nothing. Money isn’t involved. Thankfully, no political or religious agenda is promoted at these events either. All you have to do is show up.

To sum things up, it’s a platform for the brightest minds to share their thoughts with a receptive audience. If only for the greater good of the community.

3 Reasons Why You Should Consider Participating in a TEDx Event

Well, you might ask: why should I participate? It isn’t my time to learn but to share. How will this benefit my organisation? Most of all, how will attending a seminar help my career?

Quite honestly, there’s more than meets the eye, in this regard. There are benefits to participating in a TEDx event either as a speaker or as part of the audience.

Let’s look at three of the essential benefits of doing so:

1: Build a Network and Make Important Connections

While the primary focus of any TEDx Talk involves listening to speakers at these events, you can build connections from a scratch whenever you attend these events. This happens if you have ideas of your own that you wish to share.

Finding partners who could then build on that idea into something tangible is a very distinct possibility too. Who knows? One of these contacts can help you find a new job also.

2: Gain Credibility as a Participant or Speaker

If you wish to participate as a speaker, one thing is for sure: your speaking skills improve by leaps and bounds. Of course, if you’re attending only as a participant, then you get to associate with significant individuals in your line of work.

As mentioned earlier, you not only get to benefit from the speaker, but you can also meet other people and exchange ideas.

3: Gain Practical Knowledge

Apart from making contacts and improving your networking or speaking skills, you gain access to crucial practical knowledge that might be useful in your line of work.

By listening to or speaking with thought leaders in your area of expertise, you begin to use the ideas presented at work. In turn, you can stand to gain much, in terms of raises and promotions.
